# Guillaume Verdier > Guillaume Verdier is Head of Shopping Partner Engineering at Google, based in Zurich, Switzerland. He has spent 15 years at Google (since 2011, in Dublin, London and Zurich) and leads an organization of 33 people, including engineering managers, across Europe, the US and Asia, working on e-commerce, merchant APIs and agentic AI protocols. In industry terms, his field is partner and solutions engineering, close to forward-deployed engineering (FDE). He is a mechanical engineer by training (ICAM, France) with a master's in management from London Business School. He learned to code on the side, out of passion, and it became his job. He joined Google in an entry-level individual contributor role and grew to global head of an engineering organization through five promotions and 11 roles in Dublin, London and Zurich. He was ranked in the top 4% at Google ("Transformative Impact", the highest performance rating) in each of the last two years as a senior manager, and several times earlier in his career. He set the 3-year technical strategy for Google's merchant ecosystem, turned around struggling teams, and advises partners up to C-level. Today he manages engineering managers and leads a team of 33 people; coaching and leadership are at the core of his role. He has lived in France, Brazil, Canada, the US, Ireland, the UK and Switzerland, speaks French and English, plus German at B1 level, holds a Swiss C permit (no work sponsorship needed in Switzerland), and is a dad.
